郭孔丞當時是翩翩公子，又出身於豪門，而且關鍵是郭孔丞身上並沒有豪門公子的嬌氣，工作十分努力，做人低調。鄧麗君跟郭孔丞很快就走到了一起，成為了男女朋友。後來郭孔丞更是在香港跟鄧麗君訂婚，當時還邀請了很多媒體出席，引起了不小的轟動。

郭孔丞跟鄧麗君分手之後，心思一直放在家族生意上門。郭鶴年家族的生意也是在80年代之後不斷發展壯大，特別是他們投資了中國的地產跟糧油之後，資產更是迅速膨脹。

如今郭家的生意其實主要是在中國，而不是在東南亞。郭鶴年的嘉里建設在中國還有大量的物業，每年可以收租50多億。郭孔丞也曾經在家族生意中發揮了巨大的作用。不過父親郭鶴年似乎一直更加欣賞郭孔丞的堂弟郭孔豐。

其實金龍魚就是郭孔豐創辦的，後來在郭鶴年的支持下發展到了中國。多年來金龍魚一直是在郭孔豐的帶領下發展。郭孔丞這些年來其實一直非常低調，很少在商界出現，只是一直默默在背後努力工作。
